We believe the Bible! All true Christians believe that the Bible is the pure word of God. In fact, the Bible is an amazing miracle. God planned it in eternity, before he created the universe, and then, over a  period of nearly 1,500 years, inspired faithful men to write it down. Even though they lived in different times, came from different backgrounds and used different styles of writing, they wrote from their hearts and they wrote perfectly the exact words of God. We therefore believe that every word they wrote was according to the will of God.

At the heart of the Bible is the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Old Testament (Genesis to Malachi) looked forward to his coming. The ancient prophets saw different aspects of his coming, his life, his death, his resurrection from the dead and his ascension to heaven. In the New Testament,  many aspects of the earthly life of the Lord Jesus Christ, together with his death and resurrection, are recorded in the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John). All these events actually happened. Jesus was miraculously born by the virgin Mary. Though he is truly God, he did develop as a human child, teenager and young adult. He did say all the things that the Bible records him as saying, he did perform the very many miracles that the Gospel writers have recorded. He did suffer and die on the Roman cross of crucifixion, and he did rise from the dead on the third day. Many, over the centuries, have struggled to prove that the Bible is not true, and that all the events that are recorded for us are no more than myths or fables. When, by God’s grace, men and women believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and see him as both their Saviour and the Lord of their lives, they have a great inward conviction that the Bible really is true and is the word of God.

Sometimes people say that God is still adding to the truth that he is giving to the human race. We do not accept that for several reasons. Firstly the Christian faith was given in its entirety to the Apostles. Jude describes it as the ‘faith once for all given to the saints’ (Jude 3). Secondly, the Bible shows us the Lord Jesus Christ as God’s final and complete revelation to the human race (read Hebrews 1 verses 1 to 3). The New Testament presents to us Christ, what he did and what he taught. There cannot be any revelation from God beyond that. The Bible, therefore, is all that we need to bring us to the salvation that is found only in Christ, and to guide true believers on their journey through life to the heavenly glory.

We, therefore, do not preach human opinions or the ideas of men. We declare the great body of God’s revealed truth that is found only in the Bible. In particular, we preach Jesus Christ and him crucified (1 Corinthians 2 verse 2).
